Therefore Beauty FAQ

Questions you ask us again and again

Our skincare routines are deliberately kept simple. However, there is some crucial background information that we would like to share with you:

How do I wash my hair with soap?

Please read our detailed hair-washing tutorial – there you'll find all the steps and instructions.

What is an apple cider vinegar rinse? Do I need to do it?

An apple cider vinegar rinse rinse is a mixture of tap water and apple cider vinegar. This natural conditioner helps you rinse out limescale residue from tap water and soap scum, nourishes the scalp, and smooths your hair texture – more information in the hair tutorial. For short hair, the rinse may not be necessary. For everyone else, we strongly recommend it during the transition period to hair soap (approx. 2-8 weeks) and generally always with hard tap water. If you have soft tap water, you can also try our toner as an alternative to the rinse as a shine booster. For very demanding hair, we recommend our e-book to guide you through the transition period.

Why do you recommend the triad of soap, toner and oil?

The combination supports your skin and hair holistically: cleansing, pH balance, moisture, and refatting – with a few natural products that complement each other and, unlike industrial products, contain no unnecessary additives that only benefit the manufacturer, not you. Shop now

How do I use your balms as an alternative to cream?

Apply 2–3 drops to damp skin and massage in gently. This allows the oil to penetrate deeply and provide lasting care. Ideally, you have previously moisturized your skin with our toner. When choosing a balm, please ensure that you choose an oil that suits your skin type. Learn more here

How do I use your toner?

After cleansing, spray onto face, body, hair ends, or scalp. The toner moisturizes and regulates the pH level. This is especially important when you're first using soap, as your skin and hair aren't yet particularly resilient and may be overwhelmed by pH changes. Over the long term, healthy skin can restore this pH balance itself in just a few minutes.

The second benefit of our toner: It ideally prepares the skin for the following facial or hair oil. Both are the perfect after-soap care routine.

In the long term, you can reduce your use of toner, as your body can then provide moisture on its own and control pH regulation. Learn more. More information here

What is the pH of your soaps and toner?

Our soaps have a slightly alkaline pH of 7.5–8.5, which is easy to manage for healthy skin. If you prefer a lower pH for your skincare routine or have skin that isn't (yet) in balance, use our toner for face, body, and hair to achieve a slightly more acidic environment after using the soap. The pH of the lavender toner is 3–5.

Why can I reduce your products in the long term?

Our care supports the self-regulation of skin and hair: Once it's in balance, it needs less from outside sources – including us. If in doubt, ask your dermatologist: they'll confirm that less is more when it comes to healthy skin and hair.

Are your soaps and oils suitable for children and babies?

We recommend soap block 003 and complete care oil 003 for children. Important: Children's skin generally only needs very few cleansers. Through this conscious minimalism, you support the natural development of the microbiome on your childrens skin – and thus give them the most important foundation for skin health into adulthood. In a nutshell, this means: Use mainly warm, clear water to clean children. For toddlers and babies, use water with a few drops of our Complete Care Oil – or alternatively, a touch of soap lather in the bathwater. When washing babies' hair, use only this enriched bath water; no shampoo is needed! For older children, rub a little soap directly onto the head, massage briefly, and rinse quickly and carefully, making sure no foam gets into the eyes as that will cause tears. P.S.: Please avoid using synthetic skincare products on your child's skin, as these can disrupt hormonal development and the skin's microflora. All of this can have a lifelong impact on your child.

Can I also use your soaps in nature?

Yes, our soaps biodegrade within a few days. However, please only use as much as necessary in nature. Ideally, you should shower outside of rivers and lakes (keyword: "bucket shower") to protect the natural ecosystem – because cleaning products ALWAYS change the surface tension and pH of the water, which can have a negative effect on sensitive flora and fauna.

Can I also use the hair soaps on colored or bleached hair?

Many customers report positive experiences. However, a transition requires time and patience: you should expect it to take 4-10 weeks. You have to keep in mind that any chemical change to your hair (coloring, bleaching) will counteract the natural reset our products are designed to create.

How long does a Therefore Beauty soap last?

On average, 2 months. The actual duration depends on individual shower frequency, hair length, storage, and application. Proper storage is very important: we recommend our soap holder. If your soap only lasts significantly less than 2 months, contact us: in this case, there is a user error, which we can find together.

How high is the superfatting content of your natural soaps?

Our soaps have a superfatting concentration of just over 10%. This is more than most other manufacturers offer. Our secret: Depending on your skin and hair type, we use different vegetable oils and butters for superfatting. This ensures that the right amount of the right care is provided for your specific needs. In our experience, this is the only way to ensure a long-term, beautiful, balanced result for skin and hair.

How do I store natural soap properly?

Be sure to store it in a dry place: use a soap dish or a loofah pad. Our vertical soap holder made of open-pore concrete ensures perfect drying. Never leave your soap in the shower or on the edge of the sink, as it will dissolve far too quickly!
